Mortgage protection is insurance that helps pay off your mortgage if you pass or can't work due to illness or disability. It comes in different types: mortgage life insurance (pays off the mortgage if you die), mortgage disability insurance (covers payments if you're disabled), and mortgage critical illness insurance (pays a lump sum if you're diagnosed with a critical illness).
Term life insurance is a type of life insurance policy that provides coverage for a specified period of time, known as the "term." Typically, terms range from 5 to 30 years. If the insured individual dies during the term, the policy pays out a death benefit to the beneficiaries. Term life insurance is often chosen for its affordability and simplicity compared to other types of life insurance.
Whole life insurance is a type of permanent life insurance that provides coverage for the entire lifetime of the insured individual, as long as premiums are paid. It offers a guaranteed death benefit to beneficiaries upon the death of the insured. Additionally, whole life policies have a cash value component that accumulates over time, which can be accessed by the policyholder through loans or withdrawals. Whole life insurance typically has fixed premiums and provides a combination of protection and cash value accumulation.
Final expense coverage, also known as burial insurance or funeral insurance, is a type of life insurance designed to cover the costs associated with a person's funeral, burial, and other end-of-life expenses. It is typically a small whole life insurance policy with a death benefit ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. Final expense coverage is often purchased by individuals who want to ensure that their loved ones are not burdened with the financial costs of their funeral and other final expenses. These policies are relatively easy to qualify for and may not require a medical exam, making them accessible for individuals with health issues or older age.

Most Veterans assume they are automatically covered under the Veterans Group Life Insurance but this isn't true. Even if you have a Service Connected Disability your family still may not receive a VA Death Benefit upon your passing. Speak with a fellow Veteran to better understand the benefits you have and the benefits you may need.
